What is covered in the event of trip cancellation?

All our insurances include travel cancellation insurance to cover you in the event that you are unable to travel to your destination. Cancellation insurance covers, among other things :

- Tickets for transport to your destination
- holiday rentals
- hotel rooms, bed and breakfast
- Campsites and bungalows
- Courses or training at your destination
- Tickets for a concert or show at your destination
- Any activity at destination (booked and paid for)

You can therefore request a refund of your cancellation costs (the remainder of the costs payable by you).

Air ticket cancellation insurance

If you have to cancel your trip for a reason covered by the insurance and you are unable to take the plane, train, bus or other means of transport to your destination, you will be reimbursed for the cancellation costs you have to pay out of your own pocket.

Holiday rental and hotel cancellation insurance

You've booked a house, flat or hotel room at your holiday destination and you've already paid for part or all of it: if you have to cancel your trip and you can't go, first check how much the cancellation fee is. Depending on the date, you may be able to cancel your booking free of charge. If you are just a few days away from departure, it is likely that cancellation costs will be incurred, which could amount to your entire booking. In this case, cancellation insurance will protect you financially and allow you to keep your holiday budget for use at a later date.

Course and training cancellation insurance

Are you planning to take language courses, training or learning during your holiday? In the event of unforeseen circumstances, travel cancellation insurance works, allowing you to be reimbursed for any cancellation costs if you are unable to travel to your destination and attend the course.

Camping cancellation insurance

This summer, you're in the mood for fresh air and nature: what better way to get away from it all than camping? In the event of unforeseen circumstances, if you can't go on your trip, cancellation insurance will cover your costs if you have booked a pitch for your tent, caravan or even a bungalow or mobile home and have already paid.

Cancellation insurance for booked shows and activities

paid for during your trip, you will be reimbursed for cancellation costs if you are unable to go. Cancellation insurance applies equally to shows, concerts, theme parks, sporting and cultural activities, etc.

How do I take out travel cancellation insurance?

At Europ Assistance, we consider this guarantee to be essential: it is therefore included in all options. Everything mentioned above is therefore covered.

This cancellation insurance may also be included in the price of what you have booked or in your credit card insurance. Be careful, however, in these 2 cases: it is often limited (in terms of cover and amounts covered), so you need to find out more beforehand. If you cancel your trip, you will first have to contact the organisations you booked with, and then your travel insurance will cover the remaining costs.

When should I take out cancellation insurance?

Ideally, you should take out this cancellation insurance on the day you buy it, so that it covers you as soon as possible in the event of an event preventing you from leaving. You are covered from the day you take out the policy, even if your trip is still a few weeks away: anything that happens in the meantime and prevents you from leaving will be covered if your trip is cancelled.

Protect yourself and your loved ones before and during your travels

All our packages include cancellation insurance with no excess and covering costs up to CHF 100'000.

Over and above cancellation costs, it's also important to insure yourself against unforeseen events, which is why we have created tailor-made insurance policies to protect you and your loved ones, whether for a single trip or for the whole year.

Our Comfort option, the most recommended, will protect you in the event of cancellation or interruption, if you lose your luggage, if you are hospitalised or repatriated, and even if your pet prevents you from leaving because it is ill...

Take advantage of our rates from CHF 46 for one trip and from CHF 120 for the whole year.

Why choose comprehensive travel insurance?

Are you unable to go on holiday due to illness or accident?

Do you have to interrupt your trip and return early?

Did your luggage not arrive at your destination?

Travel insurance covers you before and during your stay for these and many other unforeseen events.

It also gives you peace of mind and financial protection.

An accident while travelling can quickly become very expensive.

Repatriation from any country can often cost several thousand or even tens of thousands of Swiss francs. Not to mention the cost of interrupting your journey, the impact on the journey of those accompanying you, the cost of recovery, and so on. That's why travel insurance is essential.

Your basic insurance and accident cover will only cover a tiny fraction of what you'll have to pay, so it's essential to protect yourself further. You can calculate your premium free of charge here
