Travelling around the world is the adventure of a lifetime. Whether it's a project you've been thinking about for a long time or a spur-of-the-moment departure, make sure you're protected throughout your trip, whether in Switzerland, Europe or anywhere else in the world.
The more destinations, transport and accommodation you travel to, the more likely you are to be faced with the unexpected: illness, accident or luggage left behind in the previous country... You need comprehensive cover to get started and make the most of your round-the-world trip.
Once you've thought about your itinerary and budget, it's time to book your plane tickets (or any other form of transport) and perhaps reserve your first accommodation. In addition to these important stages in the organisation of a round-the-world trip, you should also choose your travel insurance. It must be able to protect you in all circumstances and, above all, provide you with the help you need, even on the other side of the world.
Our most comprehensive insurance, Comfort, offers you the following cover for one year and as many destinations as you wish:
- Cover for your cancellation/interruption costs: flight ticket, holiday accommodation/rental, camping, courses/training, activities booked and paid for, etc.
- Cover for your medical expenses
- Immediate on-site assistance if you have a problem: repatriation, emergency transport, etc.
- Assistance in the event of a problem at home during your trip (burglary, flood) to prevent you having to return home.
- You are also covered in the event of a problem with your travel documents or luggage, or if your pet prevents you from leaving/interrupts your journey.
- Exclusive concierge service: a telephone number for all your travel queries.
Find out all about this option here, available from CHF 160 for one person.
For a long-term trip, you should take out annual travel insurance. This will cover all your trips and travel for a maximum of 365 days.
On a round-the-world trip, you'll be visiting several countries and taking several flights, and to be covered everywhere, you'll need annual insurance, as each hop, skip and jump is a trip in itself.
If you are going away as a couple or as a family (up to 10 people), take out annual insurance together, provided you live in the same household. With annual 'family' insurance, you can take advantage of special rates and higher levels of cover. You can take out this insurance for as little as CHF 190 all-inclusive for one year.
If you're going solo or in a group and you're not living in the same household, take out an annual insurance policy for each of you. Its price, starting at CHF 120 for one year, means that you are covered regardless of the number of destinations you visit during your round-the-world trip.
However, be sure to check the list of countries covered if you are travelling to a place that is subject to international sanctions or excluded by our GCI.
And be careful if you plan to be away for more than a year: our annual insurance policies are limited to 365 days, and you can only renew them if you return to Switzerland to start a new trip. Our insurance policies can be taken out up to 1 day before departure. This is no longer possible once you are travelling.
Don't forget your basic health insurance: travel insurance is subsidiary to this. It covers medical expenses that are not covered by your insurer.
Are you unable to leave on your round-the-world trip because you are ill or have an accident?
Do you have to interrupt your round-the-world trip and return home early?
Did your luggage not arrive at your destination?
Travel insurance covers you before and during your round-the-world trip for these and many other unforeseen events.
It also gives you peace of mind and financial protection.
An accident while travelling can quickly become very expensive.
Repatriation from any country can often cost several thousand or even tens of thousands of Swiss francs. Not to mention the cost of interrupting your journey, the impact on the journey of those accompanying you, the cost of recovery, and so on. That's why travel insurance is essential.
Your basic insurance and accident cover will only cover a tiny fraction of what you'll have to pay, so it's essential to protect yourself further. You can calculate your premium free of charge here.
