Checklist: The well-prepared traveller's health kit
When you go on a trip, whether it's to the other side of the world or to the next township, it's always important to take a first aid kit with you to deal with common medical emergencies.
But what should you put in your first aid kit?
What are the essential items in it?
Here's a checklist of things to pack in your bag when you travel:
- Medicines you take regularly and a few extra just in case (allow 1 month extra), accompanied by your doctor's prescription.
- Painkillers
- Antihistamines if you are prone to allergies
- Antacids
- Medication if you suffer from motion sickness
- Hydro-alcoholic gel
- Dressings for small wounds
- Antiseptic wipes to disinfect wounds
- Cortisone cream to relieve irritation
- Insect repellent
- Water purification tablets or straws
- Sun cream
- Several pairs of contact lenses if you wear them (with a small vial of contact lens liquid)
